What is Non-Trucking Liability Insurance?

Non Trucking Liability provides a third party with cover for property damage or bodily injury. In most cases non-trucking liability is provided by the motor carrier with whom a lease agreement has been signed between the owner operator. It scheme fills a possible void for non-business use of the vehicles, which helps protect primary liability policy for motor carriers.Non-truck insurance is not the same as bobtail insurance, so please check the coverage they provide with your motor carrier; in most situations, the provision will be NTL, and the cap will be $1,000,000 CSL.
In general, non-trucking liability is compensation for non-business use; the liability policy of the motor carrier would protect you from the point of contract, through pick-up and delivery, and back to the point of origin. Any personal use should, in most situations, be protected under NTL between your return and the next dispatch. There are however exclusions and the insured must carefully read their agreement.
